The outstanding Greek pianist Janis Vakarelis enjoys a major international career since winning the 1st Prize at the Queen Sofia International Piano Competition in Madrid with appearances in North and South America, Japan and Far East and in Europe. He has performed with Simon Rattle, Lorin Maazel, Kurt Masur, Mstislav Rostropovich, Christoph Eschenbach, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Yehudi Menuhin, Charles Dutoit, Marek Janowski, Colin Davis and with the leading orchestras such as Staatskappelle Dresden, Gewandhaus Leipzig, Philharmonia, Bavarian Radio Symphony, Orchestre de Paris, City of Birmigham Symphony, Orchestre National de France, Wiener Symphoniker, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra Nazionale della RAI, among others. Appearances in recent seasons included his debut with Zubin Mehta and the Maggio Fiorentino Symphony, Sakari Oramo and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Philharmonia. The President of Greece presented Janis Vakarelis with the Order of the Golden Phoenix for his services to music.
